Tue. 8:26 am: OSU coach Meyer retiring after Rose Bowl

The Ohio State Buckeyes Twitter account stated Tuesday morning a press conference will be held at 2 p.m.

"I dreamt of it", Meyer said Sunday.

Miami - For the same reasons Meyer would make a lot of sense at Florida State because of the recruiting benefits and path to the playoff, Miami could be a ideal post-retirement home.

"Urban's a very, very close friend of mine...."

At the time the Big Ten was a college football wasteland devoid of good programs. "I have no further comment (regarding where he goes from here)".

Early signing is December 19-21. He won 90.1 percent of his games at Ohio State, the best percentage in school history, ahead of Jim Tressel (82.8), Bruce (75.5) and Woody Hayes (76.1). "He's kind of just your average guy who loves football, played football and is now trying to help teach young guys what he knows about the game, which is all you need". That's a silly question. I have to tell him, 'Thank you for not recruiting all those guys'. "So that put a little push on it".

Ohio State will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday in which the school reportedly announce that head football coach Urban Meyer will retire after the Buckeyes play Washington in the Rose Bowl on January 1.

He was also battered this year by an offseason issue involving a now-fired assistant coach that led to Meyer's suspension for the first three games of the season.

Meyer's successor, offensive coordinator Ryan Day, does not have the credentials of his predecessor. Meyer had brain surgery to drain the cyst in the spring of 2014, and another surgery is an option for treatment.

"He is still committed until we meet (with the OSU staff) and find out more about the situation", said Fred Battle, father of the OSU defensive back pledge.

"A myriad of factors contributed to Meyer's decision", Thamel wrote, "but sources say foremost among them was his happiness with the state of the Ohio State program he inherited seven years ago". That got him started thinking about his future. It was the most points any team had ever scored on the Wolverines-and this year UM boasted the nation's No. 1 defense.

At that time, Meyer said he and his staff had not previously known about the allegation. There was one other time that I thought we were going, and we didn't. Was on medicine and all that.

If Meyer is entering his final days as head coach, he would leave behind a remarkable career.

Ryan Day, who coached the Buckeyes during Meyer's absence and was promoted this year to offensive coordinator, will take the team's reins upon Meyer's departure.
