Who Voted For Who In The 2018 Ballon d'Or

Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric was named victor of the 2018 Ballon d'Or on Monday (Dec 3), breaking Cristiano Ronaldo's and Lionel Messi's decade-long hold on the prestigious award.

Modric won the Uefa Champions League with Madrid and then guided Croatia to the Fifa World Cup final in July.

He also clinched the World Cup Golden Ball for best player of the tournament in Russian Federation.

Modric is the first Croatian player to ever win the award and only the second of his homeland to place in the top three after Davor Suker finished as a runner-up to Zinedine Zidane in 1998 while plying his trade for Real Madrid.

Barcelona forward Messi finished fifth, with Atletico Madrid frontman Antoine Griezmann and PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe - both of whom won the World Cup with France - third and fourth respectively.

It is the first time in 10 years neither Ronaldo nor Messi has been recognised as the world's best player for France Football's acclaimed award.

England's man, Henry Winter of The Times, went for Modric, Ronaldo, Messi, Griezmann and Varane as his top five but the folks from St Kitts, Central African Republic and Kyrgyzstan went very left-field with their choices.

Also on Monday, Mbappe was named the first-ever victor of the Kopa Trophy as the world's best under-21 player.

Modric also received the best men's player prize at the FIFA Best awards in September.

When does the Ballon d'Or ceremony start?

Hegerberg scored a tournament-record 15 goals for Lyon in the Women's Champions League and netted 31 goals in 29 goals across all club competitions this season.

Griezmann finished third in the balloting behind victor Luka Modric and runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2018 award.

"It's all about how we respect women's football".

Mbappe and Griezmann scored in the 4-2 World Cup final win against Croatia. "I let them know, quite clearly, what I found wasn't working".
