Authorities have not identified the shooter or any of the victims.

Tallahassee police identified the two people who were killed as Nancy Van Vessem, 61, and Maura Binkley, 21. Six suffered from gunshot wounds and one had been pistol-whipped.

"There are no words to express the shock and grief we feel", John Thrasher, the president of Florida State University, said on Twitter on Saturday.

It remains unclear what connection Beierle, who was staying at a local hotel, had to the yoga studio and the victims, DeLeo said.

Beierle's LinkedIn page says he attended FSU for a masters degree in public administration and urban planning, and graduated from Binghamton University in NY in 2002.

He had also had police called on him in the past for allegedly harassing young women, authorities said.

BuzzFeed News first reported on the videos.

A Tallahassee police spokesman would not confirm or deny the videos were Beierle's.

On Friday evening, survivors said Beierle kept walking in and out of the yoga studio as class began, according to Melissa Hutchinson, who works at a restaurant below Hot Yoga and later cleaned a survivor's blood off the kitchen floor.

"I don't think a female can ever understand the societal pressure that's put on an adolescent male to unburden himself of this stigma that society's put on him", he said.

"I'm already thinking about locking the doors once class starts", she said.

"Incels" are misogynists who blame women for their inability to enter a healthy sexual relationship, rather than their own failings.

In the videos, Beierle also railed against interracial dating and used racist and disparaging language when talking about black people. He was originally from NY, had served in the military and once was a teacher in Maryland.

Beierle was also charged with battery in 2012 for grabbing women's buttocks in a university campus dining hall.

Prosecutors eventually dropped the charges, the newspaper reported.

Court records obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat reveal the gunman was charged with battery in 2016 for slapping and grabbing a woman's bottom at an apartment complex pool. The woman said she declined the offer and, according to an affidavit, Beierle then slapped her on the buttocks and grabbed her.

During a media briefing today, Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said four people are in critical condition following the shooting, which took place in a small Tallahassee shopping centre. Both outlets report that when he described a woman he says did not show up to dates they had scheduled, he said he "could've ripped her head off".

"Maura truly lived a life really devoted to peace, love and caring for others", her father, Jeff Binkley, told CNN affiliate WSB.

Binkley, who grew up in a northern suburb of Atlanta, was "very smart, very attractive and just very giving", Vereen said.

On Sunday evening, FSU students and faculty came together for a vigil honoring Van Vessem and Binkley.

Dr Van Vessem was an internist who served as chief medical director for Capital Health Plan. "Without being aware, she was a mentor".
