EPL: De Bruyne set to miss Manchester Derby

His absence during a busy period is a major blow for Premier League leaders City, who face crucial Champions League fixtures, the Manchester derby and a trip to Chelsea before De Bruyne is likely to be fit.

The 27-year-old has only recently returned from a serious knee problem which has sidelined him since August and made just his second start of the season against Fulham last night.

"It's not about the Manchester derby".

"For the fact he was out two-and-a-half months and again, we're sad for him", Guardiola said. Nobody likes injured players. "But we have to live without him and we have to be there when he comes back, that's all we can do", he told reporters on Friday. Unfortunately he's injured, but fortunately it's not surgery.

Southampton have failed to score in their last five Premier League games - they have never failed to score in six consecutive top-flight games.

He will definitely be out of City's next two games, against Southampton on Sunday and Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, though he will be helped by the November worldwide break following the derby.

"This kind of injury is unlucky".

"He'll recover well because we have an excellent [medical] department". He's unlucky with that situation.

"We want him, but at the end it doesn't depend on us; it is the desire of them - his agent, him, family, they decide".

The midfielder will travel to Barcelona for treatment at Dr Ramon Cugat's specialist clinic. "Between four and six weeks, the doctor said, he will come back".

"We are delighted to have him with us".
