But at 30 years old, McCoy is at the age when running backs begin to decline.

The Philadelphia Eagles placed running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve on Monday. McCoy had some great years with the Eagles and is still capable of playing at a high level. McCoy is coming off his best game of the season, rushing for 85 yards on 24 carries in a 13-12 win over the Tennessee Titans.

From 2015-2017, McCoy racked up 3,300 rushing yards (most in the National Football League during that span), 22 touchdowns and a 4.6 yards per carry average on 724 total attempts on the ground while accumulating 1,096 yards, five touchdowns and 141 receptions through the air. McCoy was drafted by the Eagles in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He also caught one pass for five yards. Although Smallwood has done a nice job as the team's primary target out of the backfield, McCoy would be an upgrade. McDermott said he had not personally spoken to the running back about the report. The other two running backs on the roster are Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood. So if he's not the primary trade target for the Eagles now, he's a solid fallback option if Bell is genuinely available but is deemed to be more risky overall. With such glaring issues at the running back position, doesn't trading for Bell make flawless sense? That fact gave all the more intrigue to reports earlier this month that Bell was planning to report by Week 7, just over a week before that date, which could give the Eagles time to swing a deal. That drops the number down to around $6 million. From 2009-2014, McCoy was a leader and arguably the team's best player during his six seasons in Philadelphia.

But unfortunately, McCoy landing with the Eagles doesn't instantly make him a fantasy stud once again.

2019: McCoy now have a base salary in 2019 of $6.1 million. But McCoy would be less expensive, both in trade price and in salary over the next two years despite having a contract for 2019. One of the major questions is whether the team can keep up its sub-par, .500 record for the entirety of the season, however.
