Indeed, even though the Core i9-9900K has the same 95W power draw and even a slightly lower base clock speed compared with the Core i7-8700K (3.6GHz vs. 3.7GHz), it manages to pack in eight cores and 16 threads, compared with six cores and 12 threads in the CPU it's replacing.

The Intel Core i7-9700K is also rated with a base clock of 3.6GHz and can boost one its processor cores all the way to 4.9GHz.

That's not all though, as Intel refreshed its "extreme" lineup, with new X-series Core processors. Again it has a base frequency of 3.6GHz but the default max turbo is 4.9GHz on a single core or 4.6GHz on all cores.

Take a look at our take on Intel vs AMD processors. B&H Photo, for example, has the Core i9-9900K listed at $529.99, the Core i7-9700K at $399, and the Core i5-9600K at $279.99.

Intel today announced its first 9th-generation Core processors, and as you might expect, they are high-end parts aimed squarely at gamers.

The lack of Hyper-Threading on the i7-9700K will provide quite the interesting performance comparison with the current flagship 6C/12T i7-8700K. Intel has also said that the all-core frequency for the i9-9900K is 400 MHz faster than the i7-8700K. It's a 255W processor with 68 PCIe lanes, a 38.5MB Smart Cache and six-channel DDR4 memory support with up to 512GB at 2666MHz, and four channels of DDR4-2666 memory. They are however still on the 14nm architecture, so there is a real sense that the industry is holding its breath in anticipation of Intel launching their 10nm Cannon lake series at some point next year. The Core i5-9600K will cost $262, the Core i7-9700K is $373, and the Core i9-9900K is $488.

Despite the launch of a new chipset in the form of Z390, these new 9th generation chipsets will maintain compatibility with all previous 300-series Intel chipsets, such as Z370 through updates that will be made available by motherboard manufacturers.
