LG unveils the V40 ThinQ with five cameras

LG on Thursday launched a new premium smartphone with five cameras.

Like the rest of the flagship devices of 2018, the phone has Snapdragon 845.

Externally V40 LG ThinQ is a little different from that presented in the beginning of the year G7 ThinQ.

Coming to the camera department, the LG V40 ThinQ features a triple camera setup at the back consisting a 12-megapixel primary camera with f/1.5 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size, 78° lens, a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/1.9 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 107° lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 45° lens. Other important camera elements like Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and HDR mode have also been improved. The phone has a dual camera at the front and triple camera on the back. The phone packs 3300 mAh battery with support to Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 (Quick Charge 4 Compatible). The V-Series is LG's multimedia-centric smartphone and this year they are fitting a total of 5 cameras plus it comes with a much larger display. It will go on sale in the USA starting October 18.

Internal storage: Unlike the RAM, the LG V40 ThinQ ships in two memory variants- one with 64GB internal storage and the other with 128GB internal memory.

The rear camera uses three; a 16MP super wide-angle, 12MP standard angle and 12MP telephoto. It measures 158.8 x 75.7 x 7.6 mm and has a weight of 169 grams to it.

For music lovers, you'll be happy to hear that the V40 ThinQ is the first LG phone to be tuned with Meridian Audio and it still carries a 3.5mm headphone jack. After several leaks and rumours, finally, LG has announced it with five cameras - two on the front and triple camera sensors on the back.

Of course LG hasn't forgotten the competition entirely and so the V40 ThinQ can also do numerous same tricks that you'll find on its rivals too. It's also worth mentioning that preorders made within that time frame will get a SanDisk Ultra 256 GB microSD card plus a DJI OSMO Mobile 2 Gimbal for free, which is also available through LG (site is still down at the time of this writing).

On the front, the phone sports a 5MP wide-angle lens and an 8MP standard lens.

But what's really exciting here is the camera setup LG is going with. The camera app allows users to check out the field of view of all three rear cameras right before you can click a photo.

In a release detailing the product, the new flagship was shown in grey, black, blue and red colours. However, LG is still sticking to its backend Fingerprint sensors for the smartphone, unlike its potential rivals.

- The LG V40 ThinQ is compliant with MIL-STD 810G military grade standard and it comes with IP68 water and dust resistant technology, making it virtually unbreakable. The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo, which is a disappointment considering previous LG flagships have launched with latest version of Android out-of-the-box.

Both these lenses work in tandem to create portrait shots with enhanced bokeh effect, and an on-screen slider to adjust the amount of background blur adds to the overall ease.
