The biggest revelation however concerns Apple's new cheaper model the iPhone XR.

The news was met with instant ridicule across social media, as Twitter users likened it to everything from energy drinks to commentary on its "excessive" cost. It predicts average iPhone selling prices will rise by $20.

And what else do we know about Google's new phones? The iPhone Xs starts at $999 for the 64GB version, while the Xs Max will cost $1,099.

While online sentiment was mixed, an obvious key focus was the high price tag - also a target of criticism around the launch of the iPhone X previous year. But, people are already reading it as X, and that's likely to catch on.

Apple definitely is leading the smartwatch sector by a significant margin, and the company was even keen to point out that the Apple Watch is the most popular watch overall as well (Though that's just because there's no one dominating classic watch in a similar position).

Apple's new products aside, it's worth noting that Apple today seemingly axed a number of existing iPhones from its product lineup.

The XS Max will have all those upgrades, but it's bigger.

The names of the new handsets were leaked on Apple's website hours before the event, after tech site AllThingsHow noticed the new titles in sitemap code. Is this an SNL skit?' another user commented. In 2016, the price of the iPhone 7 Plus topped out at $969. You're out of luck, at least if you want one straight from Apple. The phone also packs improved sensors for faster Face ID functionality. The massive iPhone Xs Max sets a new display size record with a 6.5-inch display made up of 3.3 million pixels. The iPhone XR goes on sale October 26. The cameras are Dual OIS.

Apple didn't invent this big phone fashion. But Apple claims that the XS will go 30 minutes longer on a charge than the X does, while the XS Max will last 90 minutes more.

One of the most interesting new features Apple announced had to do with its new iPhone cameras.

Apple has announced the brand new iPhone Xr at its annual iPhone keynote event, joining alongside the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max for the company's 2018 flagship iPhones.

Both are available in Space Gray, silver, and gold in 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB capacities. The processor in the new iPhones is more advanced than any rival product, capable of the kind of heavy lifting once consigned exclusively to supercomputers. It can be configured with as much as 512GB of storage, which is enough to store 200,000 photos, Apple marketing head Phil Schiller said.

Most of the new phones' performance improvements stem from the A12 Bionic processor. Certainly, games created to tap into the newly-more-potent GPU looked visually better than earlier iOS titles, though I suspect the extra turn of speed will be most valued in multitasking and combating the inevitable slowdown over time that all smartphones seem to suffer.
