Free Agent WR Dez Bryant Tweets About Joining Patriots

Dez Bryant has made no secret of his respect for the New England Patriots.

The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is a free agent after being released by the Cowboys in April. Bryant was uninterested in that, but he did name two teams he'd be interested playing for this season: the Patriots and Redskins. Especially when it came to their attack through the air, which appeared limited at best, as Cole Beasley finished the day as the Cowboys' top target, with seven catches for 73 yards in a 16-8 loss to the Panthers.

Entering the second half, the Panthers led 10-0 following a 4-yard scramble from quarterback Cam Newton and a field goal from kicker Graham Gano.

Take away that spectacular rookie season from Dak Prescott and you'll see a quarterback that is struggling mightily on the field, especially going downfield that is nearly non-existent.

In simple terms: The Cowboys' offense was without a big-play downfield threat, a fact that didn't escape Bryant.

The 29-year-old also appeared to have little sympathy for Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan after a hard outing for his offence.

Bryant wrote that if he lined up alongside Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan, and Julian Edelman, defenses would be forced to cover him with a one-on-one matchup - "plus I won't be getting criticized [and] controlled for expressing my love for the game".
