On Tuesday, Sears Holdings announced 46 unprofitable Sears and Kmart stores will shut down by November 2018.

The company said this week it is shuttering 46 more stores in November.

The embattled retailer said liquidation sales at affected stores will begin as early as August 30. The number of stores peaked in 2012 at 4,000, which included the Sears Canada division that was later spun off.

"We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed", it said. The company declined to say how long that lease would be at the time, however it did note it should have no impact on its operations.

With the latest closure, the only remaining Sears stores in the Bay area include WestShore Paza in Tampa, Westfield Mall in Brandon, a Brooksville location and at Gulf View Square Mall in New Port Richey. Another 100 stores were added to the list in May.

Sears Department Store is closing this fall at Bloomington's Eastland Mall. ESL submitted a bid for the store's Kenmore and Sears Home Improvement businesses at a valuation of around $470 million, according to a regulatory filing last week. The company's share prices have fallen 85% over the past year as people shun malls for online shopping.
