The PGA Championship will be held next year at Bethpage Black in May.

Scott had a 65 to get into the final group.

But the world number six played the remaining 11 holes in five under to card an opening 68 and carried on where he left off on day two by chipping in for birdie on the 10th, his opening hole.

He had three more birdies on the back nine, finished with a bogey and it added to a 66.

Perhaps all that hacking caught up with Scott, whose only bogey Friday came on his final hole.

Tony Finau got out of the gates with a 4-over 74 in the first round of the PGA Championship.

Koepka, who started on the back nine, birdied the par-5 eighth and had a 20-foot birdie putt at the ninth for 62 but rolled it three feet past and made the comeback to shoot 63.

The two Utah club professionals in the field each ended up at 5 over par, missing the cut.

And that could mean trouble for some big names.

"With eight holes left there were a few tricky holes in there".

Tiger Woods is among those playing this afternoon.

Still, it is the first time since the 2005 Masters that Woods has shot consecutive rounds of 66 or better in a major championship.

Rickie Fowler was just two shots adrift of leader Gary Woodland after signing for a three-under 67.

"It felt like the young Adam Scott swinging the golf club. And 18 is playing pretty short as well".

They were going in for just about everybody.

He turned in 31, his lowest nine holes in a major championship since he began 2012's The Open at Royal Lytham with 31. Hiroshi Iwata also had a 9-under round at the 2015 PGA at Whistling Straits. "It was kind of a shocker with how good everything was going for the first five holes".

Jim Furyk will get four captain's picks on September 4, and Mickelson stands a good chance of being one of them.

"You're going to have to keep firing". He fought for a 1-over 71 in the first round but had gotten it to 1 under before his struggles at the 17th. He also answered any questions as to whether he will be able to play two matches in a day at the Ryder Cup next month.

Adam Scott, amazingly nearly the forgotten hero of Australian golf, reminded the golf world he's not a spent force at a weather-lashed US PGA Championship today.

Last year, victor Justin Thomas received $1.89 million.

Bellerive is getting battered with low numbers, as the 36-hole cut record of 141 is in danger.

He took a provisional after his tee shot sailed wide right. "The key is to get the ball in the fairway and attack from there". Then disaster struck on the par-4 12th.

Another poor tee shot the following hole had him in more trouble.

The 14-time major victor was three under for his round to that point and carried on where he left off on Saturday morning, pitching to five feet and holing the putt to improve to four under par.

The hole could see a couple more eagles during the second round, too. To play those holes nice was good.

Kodaira was rewarded for his ideal drive with an eagle. Three shots behind at the turn, he and Kevin Kisner were in a front bunker. He had to settle for being the 15th player in PGA Championship history to shoot a 63. He missed the birdie and signed for a 6-under 64.

And with more rain that pounded Bellerive and wiped out golf for the rest of the afternoon, Woodland wasn't even sure he would be leading.

Finau was paired again with Furyk in round three while Schauffele was on three-under.
