In the second half at Anfield midfielders Fabinho - who missed an early penalty - and Marko Grujic both filled in as Van Dijk only played 45 minutes but Klopp is not anxious ahead of Sunday's visit of West Ham.

There was also another promising display from 21-year-old Nathaniel Phillips, who played nearly the full 90 minutes at centre-back, and a nice moment midway through the second half when Loris Karius, whose errors contributed to Liverpool's defeat in last season's Champions League final, replaced Alisson to huge cheers from the home crowd.

Jurgen Klopp's side have only been beaten once in their nine friendlies this summer and kick off their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham United on Sunday.

The visitors rarely threatened but pulled a goal back through Andrea Belotti's powerful close-range header.

However, it was Fabinho who perhaps got off to the worst possible start.

Three minutes later the hosts doubled their lead when Wijnaldum capped off a wonderful move by slipping Salah's well-timed through-ball underneath goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

New Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has been praised by teammate and Scottish defender Andrew Robertson after completing his first match for the club.

Liverpool would score on two occasions moments later.

Klopp swapped seven of his starting lineup at half time and the intensity of Liverpool's second-half performance inevitably suffered.

Shaqiri and Sturridge were the two Liverpool replacements to stand out and they combined for their third goal on 87 minutes, with the former Stoke City winger dinking a subtle cross over the Italian defence which Sturridge glanced inside the post.

With attacking trio Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah fit and raring to go ahead of the league opener against West Ham, Klopp's pre-season plans are falling into place, with Jordan Henderson having returned after his World Cup heroics with England last month.

In his player ratings piece for the Echo, Ian Doyle rated Fabinho 5 out of 10 for his role in the Reds' 3-1 win over Torino.
