Conor McGregor to Fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October

McGregor has not fought in the UFC since 2016 when he defeated Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title, which he added to his featherweight belt to become the first man to hold titles in two UFC divisions simultaneously.

After naming major fights for the upcoming months, UFC 229 was curiously omitted, which led to speculation that a McGregor-Nurmagomedov fight would be announcd. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct in a fleeting court appearance, and was handed a punishment of five days' community service.

It is expected that the UFC would set up a presser just for the two of them in the immediate future, to get the promotional ball rolling for the fight.

The announcement was made at a UFC news conference to reveal fight cards running through the end of the year, including the November 3 co-main event between McGregor's heated lightweight rival Nate Diaz and gritty Dustin Poirier.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement during a news conference Friday (Aug. 3), revealing that McGregor-Nurmagomedov would headline UFC 229 at Vegas' T-Mobile Arena.

Well it seems like Conor McGregor's Irish lawyer may have confirmed the date and location for his bout with Nurmagomedov.

McGregor will bid to reclaim the lightweight title, which he was forced to give up due to inactivity. "For Khabib, who is undefeated and who is looked at as one of the best fighters in the world, beating Conor is massive for him", White said. So what sort of food does a former two-weight UFC world-champion fighter eat?

Nurmagomedov, the Dagestan-born Russian champion, has been one of the pound-for- pound greats of MMA when healthy, racking up 10 consecutive victories since joining the UFC.

The UFC did not disclose the terms of the fight agreement.

Oddly, Diaz later tweeted that he actually won't be fighting as part of the card.
