Community Shield: Sarri's Chelsea value to beat ill-prepared City

City are hoping to win their second consecutive Premier League title after dominating last season.

Some big names, including Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, were missing as they continue their recovery following the World Cup, but nonetheless, City put down a marker with their performance.

"The performance of Bernardo Silva was a masterpiece", he told reporters after the match.

Pep Guardiola is in a much better position than Sarri as far as the availability of first-team footballers is concerned. Right now, it is Bernardo and 10 players more.

Chelsea have officially revealed their starting line-up and substitutes to lock horns with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for the first piece of silverware of the season in the shape of the Community Shield. Meanwhile, there are plenty of impressive youngsters who should be on show as well. The inconvenient tour didn't teach anyone anything and new signing, Mahrez, even managed to pick up an injury although he will play on Sunday.

Chelsea are looking to win the Community Shield for the first time since 2009, when they beat Manchester United 4-1 on penalties.

Chelsea have signed just one player this summer who is likely to be directly involved in the first-team - that's Jorginho.

The Community Shield has been contested by the FA Cup winners and the League Champions since 1974 and the FA Cup winners are on a run of four straight victories. Two of the 2017 under-17 world champions are finally getting game time with their clubs and seized their opportunities at the national stadium.

And Ferdinand believes their emergence is promising for English football. Although Foden played in City's final game of last season, it was only to ensure he won a title medal, but this season he clearly has every intention of becoming a permanent fixture.

A plethora of players are yet to return or be cleared for action following their World Cup involvement for both sides, so here is a combined XI for those set to be involved at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. Yet when Sarri spoke to the 27-year-old three days ago, he was not left with the impression that his best player is about to leave. Sarri has spoken a lot about the importance of having fun on the football pitch, which explains why he gets on so well with Guardiola. Callum Hudson-Odoi looked most risky for Chelsea, but the Blues missed N'Golo Kante in midfield and struggled to create opportunities in the final third of the pitch. It might have been worse but for some saves by Willy Caballero in the Chelsea goal.
