The former Juventus and Italy boss had 12 months remaining on his £9million-a-year contract and is seeking compensation in full up front from Chelsea, rather than on a month-by-month basis.

Chelsea's first game of pre-season match is the July 23 friendly with Perth Glory in Western Australia.

Napoli midfielder Jorginho is poised to reunite with Sarri quickly as the Italian midfielder is already in London to conduct a medical.

Around two hours after Saturday's announcement of Sarri's arrival, the English club said Jorginho had joined on a five-year deal.

Chelsea did not disclose financial details but British media reports said that the deal for the Brazilian-born player was worth in the region of 57 million pounds ($75.42 million).

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is capable of being "one of the best in the Premier League", according to new Arsenal team-mate Sokratris Papastathopoulos.

The big centre-back has grown into one of the most feared defenders in Europe over the past couple of years and Maurizio Sarri is reported to be considering bringing the player with him to Stamford Bridge.

"I think Chelsea are a good team", Sarri told Chelsea TV.

"I would like to thank all of my friends at Chelsea Football Club for their hard work and support over the past two seasons which enabled us to win the Premier League and FA Cup together", he added.

The club's director Marina Granovskaia welcomed the signing: "Maurizio's Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal".

City believe that Jorginho, 26, preferred a switch to the Premier League champions despite claims from Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis that he would rather move to London. However, the Blues did win a trophy by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title during his first year in charge but they were unable to defend their crown last season, finishing fifth in the table.

Speculation had shrouded his position last season and it had looked like Conte might depart in early February after successive losses by a three-goal margin to Bournemouth and Watford but he saw the season out.

The 59-year-old is the ninth full-time manager of Chelsea since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club 15 years ago.
