It was 100 years ago, on April 1 1918, that the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service merged to create the RAF - the world's first independent air service.

Before entering the chapel, Kate Middleton stopped by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who said with a smile that Louis was "very calm and serene". She wore a gorgeous pastel blue dress by Alexander McQueen with her RAF brooch pinned to her lapel. In addition, the Queen has entrusted Kate's prestigious diamond brooch, which was decorated with the attire of the Duchess.

It has also been noted that Kate's decision to wear white or cream at the christening of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and now Prince Louis is due to the colours perfectly complementing the Royal christening gown, worn by all three children.

Royal watchers were equally excited to see the young royal couples - Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton - together again.

The Duchess of Cambridge is thought to have given a special nod to her late mother-in-law on Monday (July 9).

After the royal appearance, the family watched the flypast from a balcony at Buckingham Palace with great ceremony.

Just 15 years after the first-ever powered flight undertaken by the Wright brothers, the decision to create the RAF was made after the War Cabinet inquiry criticised the poor organisation of Britain's air forces.

"Her Majesty the Queen has known all of the chief of the air staff, there have been 31 of us, she has known all of them".

It was another huge moment for Meghan, who has been adapting to life as a member of the royal family since she married Harry at Windsor Castle on May 19.
