Mike Pence: 'I Do' Still Want Roe v. Wade Overturned

A few moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats, some of whom face contentious reelection races this fall, are as of yet undecided on whether to support Kavanaugh.

Alabama's Jones, another Democrat in a thoroughly red state that voted for Mr. Trump, won his seat previous year by defeating Roy Moore, the Trump-supported Republican Senate candidate accused of engaging in inappropriate relationships with underage girls in his 30s. Each comes from a state that went for Trump. He also spoke about the fact that he coaches his daughters' basketball team at Blessed Sacrament School in Chevy Chase. While women have come forward to report abuse by Kozinski that occurred as early as the mid-1980s, there have been no known reports of Kavanaugh being aware of such behavior, or it occurring while he worked for Kozinski.

A product of the Republican legal establishment in Washington, Kavanaugh, 53, is a former law clerk for retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Kavanaugh even name dropped Justice Elena Kagan in his remarks. "That presidents are above the law".

The potential "swing vote" - Kavanaugh. or Roberts? Chris Coons said at a press conference Tuesday along with other Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

That same year, on the DC Circuit, Kavanaugh wrote that the "the government's metadata collection programme is entirely consistent with the Fourth Amendment". In the same article, however, he noted, "If the President does something dastardly, the impeachment process is available". Heitkamp also presented the clearest outline of any Democrat on this list for what she wants to see in a Supreme Court justice: "a true nonideological jurist" in the mold of Kennedy, she has said. He said Congress should pass such laws.

Reyes predicted close scrutiny of Kavanaugh's decisions.

But many leading Republicans and legal analysts are dismissing such concerns as left-wing hysteria. He was more empathetic to how a prosecution could interfere with presidential duties. While Trump repeatedly promised during the campaign to select a nominee who would overturn Roe v. Wade, Kavanaugh has sometimes taken a more cautious approach.

At the moment, Jones is undecided, saying he'll wait to conduct an "independent review" of Kavanaugh's record.

Did not Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once question Roe V. Wade? "I would follow Roe v. Wade faithfully and fully" because it's "binding precedent" that has been "reaffirmed many times".

Not a low-energy Bush staffer.

The senator added that "President Trump could nominate George Washington and they would all be up in arms". But that didn't stop him from nominating Bush staffer Kavanaugh.

While Kavanaugh was meeting with senators, environmental groups slammed his record on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, which handles many regulatory cases.

What were the Democrats thinking? Pence told reporters that Kavanaugh was a "good man".

The same Red-State Democrats who voted for Gorsuch will likely also vote for Kavanaugh. He argued that "the Supreme Court has repeatedly said that the government has permissible interests in favoring fetal life, protecting the best interests of the minor, and not facilitating abortion, so long as the government does not impose an undue burden on the abortion decision".

"I have Trump nomination BINGO!" he exclaimed. But ultimately, they caved into party pressure and voted for it-and they will be under enormous pressure from Trump and McConnell to vote for Kavanaugh. "We've got the Russian Federation investigation, which is a significant one, and here we've got [a nominee] who said that the president should be above the law when they're president", Leahy said.
