Up front, you'll be greeted by a 10-inch PixelSense display that pushes a resolution of 1800×1200, giving the 3:2 aspect ratio screen a pixel density of 217ppi. With 1 millimeter of travel and LED backlighting, Microsoft says the Surface Go offers the best typing experience ever in a Surface.

The Surface Go runs Windows 10 with S mode enabled as default, which means it only has access apps available in the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft release a $499 Surface 3 tablet in 2015, but discontinued the product in 2016.

The tradeoff for all these features is battery life: Microsoft expects the Surface Go to get up to 9 hours of battery life, which is less than estimates for the Surface Laptop (14.5 hours), Surface Pro (13.5 hours), and Surface Book (17 hours). As expected, Surface Go supports Windows Hello for secure sign-in using facial recognition.

The pre-orders of Surface Go will begin on July 10 and it will start shipping from the next month.

Currently, pre-orders are only available in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The list of versions coming includes a basic one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage (processor model not mentioned), going up to 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage, 4G LTE, and a Pentium Gold 4415Y processor. It has a kickstand, metal-construction, support for inking, and comes with Windows 10 S and works with existing Surface accessories. The Type Cover's keys, similar in size to shrunken HP Mini netbooks of a decade ago, were comfortable and could be typed on with big adult fingers. It's a direct question to Apple at this point, who have struggled to make compelling cases for tossing aside your laptop in favour of an iPad with a keyboard. Microsoft has added a USB-C 3.1 port, capable of charging the tablet or outputting video and data to external devices. Gone are the stark, angled edges of the Surface Pro in lieu of rounder, softer edges that help give this version of the Surface its own identity through such a relatively small adjustment. Now its time for Microsoft to bring a Windows 10 alternative to the $399 Apple iPad. The standard Surface Go Type Cover keyboard will run you $99.99, and it will cost you an extra $99.99 for Surface Pen.
