In a matchup of the only two mothers remaining in the draw, she jumped into a 3-0 lead in both sets and wrapped up the win in 62 minutes.

Williams conceded four games in the entire match as she cruised past Rodina, who was simply unable to compete with the American.

Serena Williams stayed on track for an eighth Wimbledon title as she fought back to beat Italian Camila Giorgi 3-6 6-3 6-4 in a fiercely contested quarter-final on Tuesday.

The exit of former world number one Pliskova came after the women´s draw was blown wide open by surprise defeats earlier in the tournament for Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Caroline Wozniacki, Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens. "Every time I play Giorgi, she always plays that level, but she plays like that against everybody". I was just trying to stay focused on my serve.

"Now that I'm not, it kind of happened!" Nadal reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal since 2011, winning in straight sets, and will have to beat Juan Martin del Potro or Gilles Simon to make the semifinals.

She gave birth to daughter Olympia in September.

"I would hope there's a lot to continue to improve on".

"I mean, I'm definitely going to have to look at it the right way".

"I knew after the first set, "all right, let's go three sets". Hopefully I can get there".

This is all brand new for Goerges, who had never even been to a Grand Slam quarterfinal before this week.

Daria Kasatkina has now played Kerber seven times in her young career, with two of those matches coming on grass in the last three weeks.

"I'm not feeling the pressure because I'm not looking on the seeded or who is left or not", Kerber said of her improved title chances. "I feel good. I feel like I did better today, I had to". This is all I'm focusing on. But it's still a long way until the end. I was not thinking too much about the match points. "I went for it", Serena said.

She was the only quarter-finalist from a year ago to reach the last eight and is now through to her second grand slam semi-final having not dropped a set.

"It sounds pretty cool", said Goerges.

"It sounds pretty odd when you saw my record from the last five years here. This is all I care actually, to be honest".
