These changes include race seating in the front, removal of the rear seating, the addition of a roll cage, and the addition of a fire suppression system.

At the hands of two-time Pikes Peak champion Rhys Millen, the Bentayga - which was production-spec other than racing seats, Pirelli tyres and a roll cage and fire suppression system - returned a time of 10:49.9 - taking almost two minutes off the previous record of 12:35.6 set in a Range Rover Sport back in 2014.

Just 10 Pikes Peak Edition cars will be made, and they're earmarked for the United Kingdom and US, so don't expect to see one on the road in Australia anytime soon. R Pikes Peak received a sporting seal of approval from the outset, which it more than earned on its record-breaking run, if not before.

The Pikes Peak edition Bentayga will be available to be ordered both in the United States and Europe from August onwards.

The Bentayga SUV with which Bentley broke the record was driven by Rhys Millen, the very same man whose record the I.D, R electric VW broke in the electric vehicle class.

The Pikes Peak Bentayga features of number of eye-catching elements. Every piece of chrome is also replaced with black components, and carbon fiber adorns the splitter, side skirts, diffuser, and rear spoiler. Aside from that, only an Akrapovic exhaust and specific Pirelli tires were fitted. The auto gets a Pikes Peak logo on its carbonfibre fascia and numbered treadplates. The steering wheel and gearlever are also trimmed in Alcantara, while the headlining is made with Eliade cloth. As you've probably surmised, it's been created to mark the "fastest SUV" record achieved by a Bentayga W12 in Colorado over the weekend. The twin turbo unit produces 600bhp and 900nm, sending drive to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Additional tweaks to the adaptive air suspension and a 48V electric active anti-roll control also helped Millen make his record run. The Bentayga Sports Exhaust and Touring Specification pack complete the auto.
