According to a published article at Thurrott, Brad Sams, one of its writers, claimed that he was tipped off last week regarding the next generation Xbox which was codenamed as "Scarlett". Both the PS4 and the Xbox One were released in November 2013 and fans on either side were delighted about the prospects.

Outside of an alleged release frame, little is known about the new system. Streaming devices don't need fancy hardware, after all.

What's also unclear is whether this is entirely a new generation of consoles, are just another variation of the Xbox One.

During the Xbox E3 press conference, Microsoft revealed that it was working on the next iteration of Xbox consoles and moved on to the next topic without releasing any details.

Given Microsoft's efforts into backwards compatibility, players can expect to play current-generation games with the next-generation consoles.

It would seem that the next-gen Xbox console will reportedly be coming out in 2020.

With Scarlett, it sounds like Microsoft may avoid releasing a new upgraded Xbox every year and just drop them all out of the gate, allowing more choice right away and preventing anyone from feeling cheated if they buy a console at launch but end up seeing a more lucrative one released a year or two later.

The announcement was made at the annual gaming and entertainment convention E3 in Los Angeles, California, where executive president of gaming Phil Spencer said Microsoft engineers were "deep into architecturing the next Xbox consoles".

Nevertheless, with both Microsoft and EA announcing new streaming services for games, game streaming will become much more widespread from 2019.

Xbox previewed a flurry of new titles and deals with studios as the video-gaming division of Microsoft Corp. looks to compete more intensely with Sony Corp.'s PlayStation and a resurgent Nintendo Co.
