La Roja begin their quest to regain the world's most prestigious footballing trophy when they tackle Cristiano Ronaldo and co.in Matchday 1 of Group B.

Madrid's management has offered the forward a contract whereby he could earn 25 million euros ($29.5 million) a year, while Ronaldo has insisted on a yearly salary of 30 million euros ($35.4 million). The 33-year-old is certainly not considering a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), China, Japan or the Middle East at this point of his career.

"We are talking about the best player in the world so it is hard to understand that Real aren't doing everything they can to make him stay".

After talking about his stint as a Real player in past tense, the five-time Ballon d'Or victor gave ambiguous answers when he was asked to clarify his post-match comments later in the day.

The Manchester Evening News says Ronaldo is ready to test Manchester United's resolve as he attempts to force his way out of Real Madrid.

"Cristiano doesn't own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it".

"He's very strong mentally though, he is the leader and captain of the national team and this situation won't impact him at the World Cup".

However, his season ended on a bad note, after he suffered a shoulder dislocation in the Champions League final defeat to Ronaldo's Real Madrid.
