She, her husband and their three children last flew to Argentina in 2017 for the funeral of her and Ms Zorreguieta's father, who died from cancer at 89. Argentinian authorities are still investigating the 33-year-old's death but they too have pointed to suicide.

The body of 33-year-old woman was discovered on Thursday, June 7, at her apartment in the district of Almagro. A spokesman for the Netherlands Government Information Service told Dutch media that Zorreguieta was believed to have died in a suicide.

Maxima has cancelled her public appearances for the following days after news of her sister's death, Dutch news agencies reported.

His role sparked a national discussion whether Maxima was fit to join the royal family and did not attend her wedding.

Maxima, 47, who's originally from Argentina, was quoted in a statement by the royal household as "very shocked and sad".

'I wish them all the strength they need to cope with this awful loss. Her expected schedule had included the opening of musical event the Holland Festival, and next week's royal tour of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.

She is said to have worked as a civil servant in Buenos Aires.

His past caused some controversy in the Netherlands, and prompted a debate in the Dutch parliament ahead of his daughter's marriage to the crown prince.
