Mumbai police have summoned Arbaaz Khan, superstar Salman Khan's younger brother and an actor-filmmaker, in connection with an alleged online betting scam related to the recently concluded IPL.

"During investigation, it was found that Arbaaz was being threatened by Jalan as he had lost money on one of the matches", said said Pradeep Sharma, senior police inspector from Thane anti extortion cell.

Media reports said Arbaaz´s name surfaced in an investigation into high-profile bookie Sonu Jalan, who is said to run an worldwide gambling operation stretching from India to the Middle East. The Bollywood actor-producer has been asked to record his statement by the anti-extortion cell of Thane crime branch.

The police said, "The names of a Bollywood celebrity, contractors and builders are mentioned in the diary and we have got the list of bookies and are verifying it with Sonu Jalan".

"Jalan has claimed that the actor placed bets through him". Several reports reveal that Jalan was in contact with Arbaaz. "He has been summoned to ascertain his role in the betting racket", a police officer said.

Jalan was arrested for providing software to the five bookies who were arrested in the Dombivali case. He was arrested from Kalyan court in Mumbai. There were also allegations of Jalan having been been involved in match-fixing.

Jalan is believed to be linked to wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim and several other worldwide bookies.

Jalan had told interrogators that he was asking Arbaaz for the money due to him, said the Times Now report quoting sources close to case.
