PSG appoint Thomas Tuchel as new manager

The 26-year-old, who has spent only one season with the Ligue 1 side so far, has already been tipped for an exit from the club despite being contracted to the French champions until 2022.

"It's with a lot of joy, pride and ambition that I join Paris Saint-Germain, one of the world's great clubs". With my staff, we will do everything to help the team push their limits to the highest of worldwide level.

Before Dortmund, Tuchel was in charge of Mainz for five years.

Tuchel replaces Unai Emery, who ultimately paid the price for failing to utch PSG on to that next plain of superclub elite-dom this season just gone.

His words were echoed by departing PSG manager Emery, who said that Neymar had become exhausted with constant speculation about his future, but did not expect him to leave.

"So many things have been positive, and I also take the negative things as it helps in the growing process of the club, but also mine".

The biggest challenge for Tuchel, 44, will be delivering success in the UEFA Champions League, something which evaded Emery as PSG crashed out in devastating fashion to Barcelona in 2016/17 and then again at the hands of Real Madrid this season.

PSG's dominance of the French game this season was reflected in the awards.Mbappe was named young player of the year, beating off competition from the Lyon duo of Houssem Aouar and Tanguy Ndombele, and Bordeaux's Brazilian winger Malcom.Emery, who will leave PSG at the end of the season, won the coach of the year award.

"He abides by very strong principles of playing spectacular and clinical football that has always been the foundation of German football, especially on the worldwide scene".

"His competitive spirit, his preference for attacking play and his strong character are in line with what we have always wanted at Paris Saint-Germain, a style that the fans of our club have always demanded and admired".

Whoever is PSG's coach in the future, it will all be about winning the Champions League.
