Guillermo del Toro and Netflix team up on new horror series

Fresh off the heels of his Best Director Oscar win, Guillermo del Toro will put his horror roots to the test with the new Netflix anthology series 10 After Midnight. The series is billed as a collection of stories personally curated by del Toro "that are both equally sophisticated and horrific". Charlie Brooker's dystopian drama can be pretty terrifying as is so who knows what horror del Toro will have in store for us. I suspect this will be pitched at a slightly older audience, though.

There is now no set episode count or premiere date. It's unclear now how many episodes are being produced, and thus how many episodes del Toro will be lending his own writing and directing talent to. Del Toro is a longstanding fan of the original books, particularly Stephen Gammell's notorious illustrations, which he cites as being 'scary as fuck'. Del Toro, alongside J. Miles Dale (The Shape of Water) and Gary Ungar (The Strain) of Exile Entertainment, will executive produce.

Guillermo del Toro is an established horror enthusiast who has frightened audiences with past projects, such as Crimson Peak, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. He'll pick a handful of genre filmmakers and writers to work on the show.

10 After Midnight marks the second collaboration between Netflix and del Toro, with the company previously working with the filmmaker on his Trollhunters animated series, which will return with new episodes on May 25th.
