Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho updates on Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku injuries

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Anthony Martial missed out on Manchester United's 1-0 win over Watford due to an injury sustained on Friday.

After Sunday's final Premier League game at home to Watford, the pair have one more vital match together, in Saturday's FA Cup final against their old club Chelsea.

The 36-year-old, who will now become part of the club's coaching staff, was given a guard of honour before the game by both sets of players and put on a performance typical of his outstanding career. I am sure he will teach me a few things and we will have some success in the near future, I am certain of that.

They have an FA Cup final against Chelsea to look forward to next Saturday, but while those 81 points and that second-place finish show a clear improvement on previous seasons, optimism has been dampened by the style of football in too many games, and by the vast gap between United and Manchester City.

Mourinho made nine changes to the side which beat the Hornets thanks to a Marcus Rashford tap-in made by Carrick's long pass and laid on by Juan Mata's selflessness.

It is said that the Old Lady value Sandro higher than the £50m paid by Manchester City for Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur nearly 12 months ago and will demand in excess of £55m, although United are keen to keep it at £50m. "He had treatment in the morning at the training ground and he stayed away". Each Carrick pass tugged on the heartstrings of those at Old Trafford.

There had been speculation that Mourinho would appoint a new assistant but he says the role could go to Carrick once he obtains all his coaches' badges. "Romelu will be back for Tuesday and then we'll have to see about Anthony".

As for Watford, head coach Javi Gracia made three changes to the team that started against Newcastle United last weekend, with Heurelho Gomes, Gerard Deulofeu and Richarlison coming in for Orestis Karnezis, Etienne Capoue and Troy Deeney.

"Yes, I think so", was his brief assessment. Mata hit Rashford first time along the right and he did the same, firing the ball into the area.

Meanwhile, Mourinho had a positive update on Romelu Lukaku, as he added, "I'm waiting for the doctor but when it's impossible to play today, I have my doubts (for the cup final)".
