In a distant second, "Life of the Party" earned an estimated $18.5 million, which is a few million short of some of McCarthy's other comedy collaborations with husband Ben Falcone like "Tammy" and "The Boss".

"Avengers: Infinity War" set the all-time record for biggest domestic opening weekend with $257.7 million on April 27 to April 29, then fell 56% to $114.8 million on May 4 to May 6. While the No. 2 comedy launch of the year so far behind Blockers ($20.6 million), Life of the Party nevertheless marks McCarthy's lowest starts in recent years.

Universal's Breaking In, a thriller produced by Will Packer, followed at No. 3 with $16.5 million from 2,532 cinemas.

As of Wednesday, Infinity War has grossed $1.251 billion, with $479 million made in the U.S. and $772 million in worldwide markets. The superhero mashup collected another $61 million at the box office, nearly doubling the combined take of the weekend's two big theatrical releases.
