Arvind Kejriwal's relative arrested in PWD scam

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's nephew was arrested on Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a graft case involving submitting of fake bills to claim money for PWD construction work. The arrest took place on Thursday morning, said ACB chief Arvind Deep. Vinay was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody for a day. He had allegedly claimed he was not an active partner in the firm but this was not true.

"For the Centre and the lieutenant-governor in the last three years, Delhi police and ACB only exist to harass and trouble AAP leaders, ministers".

"This is part of a chain of arrests against AAP MLAs", Sisodia said, adding this would be exposed in the court. ACB sources said more arrests were likely in the case as some PWD officials are also under the scanner.

"The ACB registered an FIR on May 8, 2017 after a complaint that Surender Bansal got a tender below 46 per cent on behalf of company Renu Construction, on the estimated cost of Rs 4.9 lakh", Deep said.

The ACB team had a year ago raided Kejriwal's brother-in-law Surender Kumar Bansal's residence and office. "Centre and L-G are only taking one work, which is how to trouble AAP leaders", Sisodia told reporters here.

As per investigating officers, the FIRs were filed after the founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO) had lodged complaints against Delhi chief minister, his brother-in-law, and others. And the work was found to be done well by the PWD as well.

"After the complaint, the ACB got a separate inquiry conducted by Sri Ram Labs which also said that work was satisfactory", Sisodia said. He also rejected allegations of scam in the contract allotted to Bansal's company.

Bharadwaj said the contract was given to Bansal's company in Januray 2015 while Kejriwal came to power a month later.

In its report, the CPWD said, "There was no vehicle number (vehicles used for trasportation of raw materials) mentioned in the invoices and bills submitted by the firm".

It also claimed that a third party certification of the construction was done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee.
