"He had a pretty good lead on (the) closest officer", Bill says.

"Thank you "Bill" for sticking your leg out for us", police say in the news release.

Officers then arrest the man, with one saying: 'You're lucky you dropped that gun man.

The Columbus Division of Police says a man named Bill was standing outside a west Columbus library when he heard police sirens and saw a man with his hand in his waistband running toward him.

Bill, who had a walking stick with him, said he thought the suspect had a lead on the officers and so chose to help them out.

A grandfather who tripped an armed suspect as he was fleeing police has been hailed for probably saving the man's life. The gun fell to the ground as the suspect tripped.

The fancy footwork of a grandfather helped police in OH capture an armed suspect who was trying to escape. "He went one way, and the gun went another".

"He was coming my way, so I got in his way to slow him down so you guys could get him". "Boy, you nearly got shot".

After the suspect was arrested, police recovered a Glock 9mm pistol and 29 rounds of ammunition from him.

The grandfather can then be seen dashing out of the way as armed officers descend on the suspect.
