Sridevi Wins Best Actress National Award Posthumously for 'Mom'

The 62-year-old wrote: 'We are overjoyed to know that the Jury has conferred the Best Actress Award to Sridevi for her performance in Mom.

In an earlier interview to IANS, Sridevi had said she was proud to be a part of a film like "Mom", and the reactions it elicited.

The statement was released by Boney and her daughters, where they thanked the government and said, "We thank the Government of India, the Hon'ble Jury Members for this honour". In a career spanning over four decades, Sridevi acted in several hit movies like "Mr. India", "Chandni", "Naagin", "Sadma" etc. Such was his stature that his negative characters left as much of an impression on us as his positive portrayals.

The National award for best actor has gone to Riddhi Sen for his stunning performance as a transgender in Kaushil Ganguly's Nagarkirtan.

However, when it came to content, regional films scored big.

"Kaccha Limbu" named best Marathi film, "Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum" best Malayalam film, "Mayurakshi" best Bengali film, "Ishu" best Assamese film; "To Let" best Tamil film, "Gazi" best Telugu film, and "DHH" best Gujarati film.

Film writer Imtiaz Hussain headed the South I panel and lyricist Mehboob was the head of the South II panel.

Sridevi had returned to Bollywood industry after a hiatus with the movie English Vinglish, before that she had played various roles in Hindi movies and shows. "I want to expand the reach of film-making through online platforms".

Similarly, award winning Malayalam director Jayaraj bagged the best director award for his Malayalam film 'Bhayankaram'.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Sarkar 3 are competing in the popular movie category. Actor Fahadh Faasil, meanwhile, won the Best Supporting Actor award for the film, directed by Dileesh Pothan. The winners of the 65th National Film Awards were announced on Friday.
