Barca extend unbeaten La Liga record with Valencia defeat

Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the 15th minute, and Samuel Umtiti made it 2-0 in the 51st.

With the victory, Barca are now 14 points clear of second-place Atletico Madrid, with the season's final El Clasico coming up in three short weeks, at the Camp Nou.

"We've tried to confirm the great league season we're having after the blow of the other day".

"We were already a team that come together during hard times. You want to repay them".

- Barcelona have equalled the best unbeaten start of any team in La Liga history (32 - W25 D7), recorded by Real Sociedad in 1979-80 (32 - W17 D15). "We needed 10 points to win league, now it's seven".

Valencia, who are third above Real Madrid in the table, have enjoyed a superb season and played with confidence.

"Records are there to be broken", Suarez told beIN Sports.

Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho returned to the Barcelona starting XI. We knew the fans could be angry, but we're hurting, too.

Pique, already booked, endured a hard 45 minutes and as he and Marc-Andre ter Stegen dallied at the back and the latter's skewed pass fell to Carlos Soler.

Lionel Messi was inactive for much of the first half but grew into the game in the second, narrowly volleying over the bar and fizzing a shot just wide after tearing through the Valencia defence.

Ter Stegen gifted the visitors another chance with a poor clearance but made amends in style, turning Rodrigo's effort onto the crossbar with an excellent one-handed save.

Umtiti beat Gabriel Paulista to Coutinho's corner and while his header was parried by Neto, Valencia's goalkeeper could only push it in off the post.

Valencia did manage to halve the deficit three minutes from time, Ousmane Dembele carelessly bringing down Jose Gaya for a penalty which Dani Parejo slotted beneath Marc-Andre ter Stegen. But Barca's morale-boosting win was never really in doubt.
