The accused was held by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for scrutinising objective on early Friday morning.

The arrest comes hours after the Allahabad High Court ordered the probe agency to immediately arrest the lawmaker, reports The Times of India. However, at around 9.45 pm, CBI spokesperson RK Gaur confirmed to TOI that Sengar had been arrested at 9.30pm. CBI has booked the MLA and a woman named Shashi Singh under charges of kidnapping, inducing a woman to compel into marriage or illicit intercourse, rape and penetrative sexual assault against children. There are certain inconsistencies in his statements over the June 4 incident for which we require his custody. "He will be produced before local CBI court in Lucknow on Saturday", said a senior CBI source in Lucknow. Sengar is likely to be produced by the CBI in court on Saturday.

Sengar was asked to join the investigation when he was about to leave for Varanasi.

During this period, the CBI also collected various evidence with regards to the two cases for which it has filed three FIRs.

Alleging inaction and coercion from powerful people, the victim attempted self immolation in front of the CMs house on April 8 and the next day, her father died in jail with post-mortem report suggesting serious injuries on his body.

"Police was not ready to register FIR of the minor rape victim". The victim had tried to immolate herself outside CM Yogi Adityanath's residence on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Sengar was picked up by a team of the CBI, lead by Superintendent of Police Raghavendra Vats, from his residence in Indiranagar from where he was driven to the zonal office of the CBI and interrogated for several hours. CBI officials Friday met the victim and her family members in Unnao and questioned police officers and doctors concerned in the case.

The CBI has taken over the investigation in three cases related to the case. They came back to Lucknow around 7.30 pm. A case was being registered against the accused MLA on Thursday and was detained by CBI for the questioning.
