Chicago was blanketed with six to nine inches (15 to 23 cm) on Friday morning in the heaviest snowfall across the metropolitan area since at least late 2016, said Todd Kluber, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Chicago.

After almost nine inches of snow fell Friday, more is expected - up to 3 inches on Sunday for areas south of M-59, according to the National Weather Service.

More than two dozen counties in IN have been placed under some sort of travel restriction due to snow and freezing rain.

The majority of the storm clouds in the area have formed in Hays County, though those storms are moving slowly north, and a few scattered showers are also popping up in different areas of Travis County.

The temperature was in the low 20s before dawn and was expected to hit a high in the mid-30s later in the day, the National Weather Service said.

Northeastern Indiana slowed down this weekend as snow continued to fall over slick accumulations on the roads.

The forecast calls for snow through the afternoon, with a high near 28 degrees.

Rapelje saw 10 inches, and Laurel reported 8 inches of snow. As the precipitation falls through the warm layer, it will melt from snow to rain. That will likely transition to sleet Saturday night, ending with snow on Sunday morning.

Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches is possible across central Kansas.

Saturday night - A chance of snow and freezing drizzle before 10 p.m., then a chance of snow. It and St. Valentine's Day, Wednesday, will have higher temperatures with more sunshine.

Because of the possibility of strong north winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour, blowing and drifting snow will be possible causing hazardous conditions for motorists Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning.

While snow is expected north and freezing drizzle is expected south, traffic will likely cause some problems for all of Mid-Missouri.

Partly sunny, with a high near 42.
