One officer dead, two deputies hurt in shooting outside Atlanta

WSB-TV, citing the Henry County Sheriff's Office, reports that two local sheriff's deputies and a Locust Grove officer were shot.

McBrayer said one deputy was in serious condition and undergoing surgery, and had been hit below the bullet-proof vest.

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer announced the death at an afternoon news conference.

The GBI is investigating the shooting, which occurred in a cul de sac at a house on St. Francis Court, WSB-TV reported.

11Alive spoke with Wade Corley, who said his brother, Michael Corley, was one of three officers who were shot while serving a warrant.

The sheriff said an altercation then broke out. At that point they called Locust Grove for backup from an officer.

The slain suspect has been identified by authorities but his name will not be released until his next of kin are notified, said Nelly Miles of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Police blocked off the subdivision and were not letting those who don't live there enter.

"It's quiet. I've never had any issues and I pray I don't have any, said Rodgers, who has lived there almost two years".

As a precaution, Locust Grove Elementary School was placed on lockdown.
