Auto Expo 2018: Mahindra unveils electric KUV100 with new EV concepts

Auto Expo The Motor Show 2018, jointly organised by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and accredited by International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) is being organised from February 9 14 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Tata Motors unveiled two concept vehicles, a luxury SUV and a premium hatchback, besides showcasing six electric vehicles in the mass and personal mobility segments. The vehicle features two black panels at the front and rear that also incorporate the headlamps and tail lamps. The Tiago EV, the Tigor EV and the Racemo EV were also showcased as special Auto Expo edition. However, the carmaker has said that it is powered by "a highly responsive" electric powertrain which is placed lower in the body to obtain a low centre of gravity.

"Combining the comfort and space of a sedan with the ability to tackle all kinds of terrain, we intend to storm the market with an SUV that will set new parameters in motoring", said Kia's design chief Peter Schreyer when unveiling the SP Concept.

Ayush Lohia, CEO of Lohia Auto, told ET, "After a significant success in keeping the electric vehicle moment alive, we are now geared up to take the brand to the next pedestal by adding more value to the products in terms of speed, power and reach".

The same idea was reiterated by Honda Honda Cars India (HCIL) President and CEO Yoichiro Ueno. It also unveiled two scooters - "Maestro Edge 125" and "Duet 125".

Mercedes Benz launched its flagship Maybach S650 with starting price of Rs 2.73 crore.

The showroom model is expected to be revealed at the 2018 Paris motor show later this year, and will likely borrow its fundamental underpinnings from the new-generation Cerato that will launch in Australia in both sedan and hatch variants during the year.

The companies are betting big on the growing two wheeler sales in India which now stands at about 20 million per year. Hero MotoCorp unveiled a 200cc adventure motorcycle "Xpulse". The all-new MINI Countryman was unveiled at the Auto Expo and would be locally produced at the BMW Group plant in Chennai.

Piaggio India launched the Aprilia SR 125, unveiled the Aprilia Storm and introduced an innovative smart mobile connectivity feature for Vespa and Aprilia.

India Yamaha Motor announced the launch of its super sports bike YZF-R15, a 155 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-Stoke, fuel injected engine.

About 200 companies are taking part.
