Apple News Launches Coverage of 2018 Winter Olympics

It is not clear why Apple has chosen to put its Olympics coverage in "For You".

In addition to the new section on the TV app, Apple has also added Siri functionality that will allow users to access the live streams via voice commands. Not long after adding a dedicated sports section to the Apple TV app, the company will now be rolling out a "News" section as well.

News stations available include Bloomberg, CBS News, Cheddar, CNBC, CNN, and Fox News.

If you don't have the dedicated application for one of those networks installed, tvOS or iOS will prompt you to install it directly from the App Store. Unless you've already downloaded a given network's app, tapping on any of the channels requires you to download the app, after which live news video will quickly begin playing.

"Using apps on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad has become the primary way for so many of us to watch television", said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in a statement. For instance, simply say "Play CNN" to immediately jump to the live feed in the CNN application.

If you're running the most recent versions of iOS and tvOS, the feature should now be live.

The Olympics coverage section is found within the "For You" tab of Apple News. Try it out and let me know how you like it.
