There will be a lobster emoji available for use later this year, thanks to the crustacean's best advocate, Sen.

But alas, lobster aficionados won't be able to use the emoji just yet.

Angus King says a long-overdue lobster emoji is coming to smartphones, and it is cause for celebration.

That's right, after an online petition gathered thousands of signatures, the lobster is getting its own emoji.

The global emoji mafia was pressured by an online petition started by Luke Holden of NY chain Luke's Lobster as well as by ME senator Angus King, who tweeted that it's "great news".

King fittingly signed off the tweet with his name in emoji form: a cow for Angus and a crown for King. Dubbed Emoji 11.0, the list contains no less than 157 emojis that you might see on Android and iOS devices in the second half of the year. The new Emoji 11.0 set is fixed and final, and includes the data needed for vendors to begin working on their emoji fonts and code ahead of the release of Unicode 11.0, scheduled for June 2018.

The new lobster emoji is months in the making.

The lobster isn't the only new emoji that will remind people of summer in Maine. But for those who like sending body parts to your friends, there will soon be a leg, foot, tooth, and bone emoji for you to add to your repertoire.
