Toyota is the latest automaker that will feature Amazon's voice-activated virtual assistant Alexa in its vehicles.

Toyota says that the functionality will be available on "select Toyota and Lexus vehicles with Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite and Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0" for the 2018 and 2019 model years.

These companies will allow Alexa into their vehicles or integrating the voice service into the connectivity systems that link customers' cars and mobile phones.

Ford announced plans to begin testing Alexa in cars at CES past year, and BMW previously announced plans to begin adding Alexa support to its model lineup last September. Some of the offerings that are being showcased at CES 2018 in Las Vegas will come with pre-installed Alexa app.

While on the road with a connection to the Internet, Alexa can provide directions, the news, access audio books, adjust smart home settings or a number of other voice-command tasks.

Customers will be able to access Alexa's range of skills - as its voice applications are called - while in the auto.

"We're thrilled that Toyota and Lexus will bring Alexa to customers on the road", said John Scumniotales, Head of Product for Amazon Alexa Automotive.

Amazon has similar arrangements with other carmakers such as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, Nissan Motor Co., Hyundai Motor Co., Daimler AG, BMW AG and Ford Motor Co.
