A picture accompanying the post showed a woman with a red "X" over her face standing with a dead Christmas tree at the Costco customer service counter.

But one California woman showed up at Costco on January 4, with her dried up Christmas tree asking for a refund because it was dead.

The woman was slammed on social media by users branding her "cheap" and "brazen".

'Heartbreaking to think she may have needed that money so much, she lost all self respect and dignity for it. But I don't think it fazed her because she has no conscience.

A by Costco employees discussed some of the more egregious items that were returned to stores, including 13-year-old fish, an empty wine bottle, and photo prints.

Costco is known for it's generous return policy.

In a move that can either be deemed savvy or simply ridiculous, a California woman went to Costco with her dead Christmas tree demanding a refund, and she got it. "People like this are miserable".

Another wrote: "Sister works for Costco, can confirm. They will even demand a refund without bringing back the tree".
