Switch voice to video calls with new feature on WhatsApp

The new feature was introduced in a beta update for the messenger app, and is now only available for users who have signed up for the beta version, where the company tests new and experimental features.

WhatsApp has launched a new feature with the Google Play Beta Program, which makes switching to video calls, during a voice call possible.

Now, WhatsApp is all geared up to bring "quick switch" that allows users to go back and forth with video and audio call. It's hardly a revolutionary change but it helps make the whole WhatsApp calling experience a little more seamless. This feature has already been rolled out in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android and is expected to be rolled out for other WhatsApp users all around the world soon.

Since WhatsApp and Instagram come under Facebook's umbrella, the apps are now communicating in new ways. This option should appear during your voice calls. The feature is available in the latest beta version of the app with the version number 2.18.4. The transition will be extremely seamless and it is no longer required to disconnect the call so as to switch to another form of communication. Thereafter, the person on the other end of the line will receive a notification which will prompt them to either accept or reject the video call request.

After all, there are times when a voice call may be initiated between two strangers or people who are talking for the first time for a goal. Currently, this feature is hidden and under the internal testing by developers. Pressing that button will send a pop-up to the person on the other side saying that you're requesting a video call. The official WhatsApp FAQ still has the "Show all Contacts" option if you look at the "Finding Contacts" section.
