Manchester City are reportedly confident that they will be able to sign Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez for just £25 million in the coming weeks (via The Metro).

Arsenal are now in a tight fix in regards to the contract situations of both Mesut Ozil and Sanchez, and it may not come as a huge surprise, should one of the pair, most probably Sanchez leave before the end of the month.

The Chilean's contract expires at the end of the season which is why the Gunners are eager to cash in on the 29-year-old now, even at that reduced price.

If true, that would rule him out for the rest of the season, thus increasing the need for City boss Pep Guardiola to sign reinforcements up top with only Sergio Aguero as the club's only fit senior striker.

Sanchez has also attracted interest from a number of other clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, who are free to negotiate with his representatives directly given he has entered the final six months of his contract at Arsenal.

Cárdenas says the main sticking point is a fee, with City offering £20million for a player out of contract in June and Arsenal requesting £35million.

Sanchez was close to joining City in the summer on transfer deadline day until Arsenal pulled the plug on a £60 million deal late in the day.

There are many Arsenal fans that believe we should cash in on Alexis as soon as possible if we can, but we should surely be hoping that Wenger has a replacement lined up (like Riyad Mahrez?) How will we feel if it happens this week after such a disappointing result?

The injury to Gabriel Jesus is thought to have had an impact.
