Deputy shot during chase dies from gunshot wounds

Someone called the Sheriff's Office just before 11:30 a.m. saying an intruder was inside a home in Frederickson, a suburb just southeast of Tacoma. It appears the Deputy was responding to a report of a residential burglary at the home when he was shot and killed.

It was not immediately known who shot one of the suspects, or whether the deputy managed to return fire. He began to pursue a suspect on foot and shots were fired at the deputy, striking him. He's survived by three young boys.

After the deputy was taken to the hospital, Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastour called the shooting a loss to the entire community.

It is with incredible sadness that inform you that our deputy has passed away from his injuries.

Officials say two suspects were involved.

The department asked in a Facebook posting that the deputy's family, friends, and the department be kept in people's thoughts and prayers.

One of the burglary suspects, identified as a white male, also died during the confrontation with the officer. A large containment area around the shooting scene was blocked off for several hours while authorities searched for a second suspect.

They say it appears the suspect may have partially disrobed as he fled.

A memorial fund was set up to benefit his wife and children.
