DeWanda Wise Will Be Joining the MCU In Captain Marvel

Deadline revealed that this would be Wise's first major film role, though did not say if she'd be Rambeau in the 2019 MCU installment. Fans are already speculating that the role will be Monica Rambeau, a.k.a. Spectrum.

However, when Carol Danvers chose to take on the name of Captain Marvel (partially to honor her old friend, Mar-Vell, who is responsible for Carol getting her powers in the first place), Carol and Monica had a confrontation over the name issue.

In addition to Larson and Wise, the film also stars Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and another Star Wars veteran, Samuel L. Jackson, who will reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Nick Fury.

At the time, Carol was using Ms. Marvel as her name, before switching to other code names like Warbird and Binary, before settling for Ms. Marvel and then Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is a Marvel Cinematic Universe prequel of sorts, taking place in the 1990s. For those unaware, Rambeau was not only an Avenger but also held the Captain Marvel mantle before Carol Danvers, the film's lead played by Brie Larson.

2018 is looking to be a great year for DeWanda Wise. She is now fresh off a role in She's Gotta Have It on Netflix, but no word on who she is playing is available at this time.

Marvel's first female centric superhero film has gained another cast member.

There is a lot in store for the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but "Captain Marvel" is scheduled to be released on March 8, 2019, closely followed by Larson's next role in "Avengers 4", which is set to be released on May 3, 2019. Just excited to see DeWanda getting more big roles?
