Amazon Prime Video comes to Apple TV at last

After years of waiting, Prime Video is available now for free. After many months and questions on whether Apple would keep its promise, Prime Video has finally arrived on Apple TV and can be downloaded via the App Store in tvOS.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the forthcoming appearance of Amazon Prime Video to the Apple TV earlier this year, but the launch kept getting pushed back for unknown reasons. The app release should open the door for Amazon to start selling the Apple TV device, according to the report. Amazon, much like Netflix, is ramping up its original content efforts, so its Apple TV application comes as it looks to increase its viewing audience.

Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan can use the app to watch videos purchased or rented from Amazon.

In the past, we've seen listings briefly appear, and we can't imagine it'll be too long before Amazon restores the Apple TV to its store.

Amazon does not currently offer Apple TV hardware, but some suspect that may change now that Apple is supporting Amazon's video app.

The app is dropping just before Amazon's upcoming NFL Thursday Night matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints, and also in time for the premiere of "The Grand Tour".

Most notable, the Rocky movies are coming to Prime.

'With these exciting updates, plus our growing collection of 4K HDR movies on iTunes, we continue to deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience to Apple customers'.

Amazon's streaming video service is now accessible via Apple TV.

"We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services", a Google spokesperson said in a statement obtained by Engadget.
