Malzahn Staying At Auburn, Gets New Deal From The Tigers

ESPN has learned that Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn has spurned a lucrative offer from Arkansas to remain with the Auburn Tigers.

Gus Malzahn isn't going anywhere.

That decision payed off, Fromm looked like a veteran leader in the SEC title game. Among names previously mentioned for the job are Memphis' Mike Norvell, SMU's Chad Morris, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables and FAU's Lane Kiffin.

This report follows Malzahn's Peach Bowl Teleconference less than an hour before this report. When that question is answered in a will, reporters and fans will stop asking.

Auburn is 45-21 over the course of Malzahn's five-year tenure, which began following the firing of Gene Chizik after the 2012 season. Both players had a remarkable season and faced off against each other in the SEC Championship.

Fromm becomes the ninth Bulldog in history to be voted the league's top freshman (Garrison Hearst, 1990; Eric Zeier, 1991; Randall Godfrey, 1992; Quincy Carter, 1998; David Greene, 2001; Knowshon Moreno, 2007; A.J. Greene, 2008; Chubb, 2014).

He also led Auburn to victories over teams that were No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings at the time, Georgia and Alabama.

The win over the Crimson Tide was the second of Malzahn's tenure, and once Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin was sacked, he became the only active SEC head coach with a win against Alabama head coach Nick Saban. "We've got talented players".

Auburn has also brought in a top-10 recruiting class in every year of Malzahn's tenure and is on track to bring in another in 2018. I love the school and love where we're going. "We're on solid foundation and have a chance to do some special things".
