House of Cards to Resume Production in 2018 Without Star Kevin Spacey

The drama series will resume production in early 2018 on an eight-episode sixth season that will star Robin Wright, Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos announced Monday morning.

The chief content officer for Netflix told the audience at UBS's Global Media and Communications Conference in NY on Monday that season 6 of the streaming giant's landmark show will happen.

"We were really excited we could get to an agreement... for the conclusion of the show", Sarandos said at UBS's Global Media and Communications Conference in NY. It was Anthony Rapp who first threw allegations at Kevin Spacey about his misconduct.

Variety reported last month that "House of Cards" producers were contemplating killing off Spacey's character - the devious political animal Frank Underwood - to focus on Wright's Claire Underwood as a way to salvage season 6.

In response to the story, Spacey issued a statement claiming he did not recall the incident, but he apologized for what he said would have been "deeply inappropriate drunken behavior". How will they write Spacey out of the script but keep the storyline going? The final season will not include Spacey, as previously announced. "So, I'm really happy that the people that work on House of Cards are continuing to get to do that work".

On Nov. 26, Media Rights Capital announced that it had extended its production hiatus for another two weeks until December 8.

Netflix, which also cancelled plans on a Gore Vidal biopic starring Spacey, recently expressed interest in a House of Cards spin-off, though those details are also up in the air.

House of Cards was Netflix's first original series order.
