The singer took to the stage and broke into tears as Francia presented her with the award.

"I want people to know I respect the platform that I have so deeply", Gomez said.

After taking a few moments to compose herself, the 25-year-old continued her speech, saying, "I feel incredibly lucky".

After thanking Fanning and Raisa, Gomez added "I don't know how I'll ever repay it but maybe I'll make an epic album next year". "And that's because I actually feel comfortable with every single woman that's encouraged me".

Gomez has been abundantly introspective, which was clear from the accompanying interview she did for the December 9 issue of Billboard. "I'm so grateful for the older women who have lifted all of us up".

She cherishes on/off beau Justin Bieber and is best friends with her ex, the Weeknd. "There aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my handsome friend Francia Raisa", Gomez wrote on Instagram at the time.

Gomez said as she fought back tears, "To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award because she saved my life. She's standing here and being honoured and I've seen her career continue to soar, it's awesome".

She's proud of her transplant scar.

"Extra's" Renee Bargh spoke to Gomez, who opened up about her new life, just before her emotional speech onstage.

Gomez revealed on Instagram in September she had received a kidney transplant, explaining she had not been able to promote her music over the summer as, "I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my lupus and was recovering".

She's beauty and she's grace, she's Miz Selena Gomez.

Meanwhile, if she wanted to cover up her scar, she could, but doesn't plan to just yet: "When I look at my body now, I just see life". "But I really, really felt that that's what helped me feel satisfied with where I am".

"Thank you to Billboard for this honor tonight. I feel like I'm crowning this year's prom queen".
