Nittany Lions Set To Face Washington In Fiesta Bowl

Penn State, which is No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings, will appear in a New Year's Six bowl game for the second consecutive season.

It might not be the College Football Playoffs but the Nittany Lions are still headed to a New Year's Six bowl game.

Penn State 13, Washington 10.

No. 9 Penn State will face No. 12 Washington in the Fiesta Bowl. That game was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

The No. 9 Nittany Lions will take on 11th-ranked Washington in Glendale, Arizona, near Phoenix on December 30 at 4 p.m. on ESPN.

This is Penn State's seventh appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, which is the most of any bowl in program history.

Rahne had been passing game coordinator for Penn State the past four seasons, coaching quarterbacks (2014-15) and tight ends (2016-17).

Washington also came in at No. 12 in the final regular-season coaches poll, in which USC is No. 7, Stanford No. 16 and Washington State No. 21.

Most expected the Lions and Huskies would play in the Cotton Bowl. Washington, which had only one loss, edged Penn State, which had two.
