Xiaomi offers smartphone exchange programme: Should we count on it?

The offer is in partnership with Cashify, a startup formed in 2013, that lets users sell and buy used consumer appliances like laptops, mobiles, TVs etc. While Xiaomi has offered discount coupons and the like, it is the first time Xiaomi has made an exchange offer to its customers.

Spread over 2.3 lakh sq ft, the facility will initially employ over 500 people and the number will be ramped up gradually.

Days after teasing a new "i" product, Xiaomi on Tuesday launched the Mi Power Bank 2i lineup as its very first 'Made in India' power banks in the country. As per an official Xiaomi statement, the new production line in Noida is capable of manufacturing seven power banks per minute.

The exchange programme works like other exchange promotions that are regularly seen at offline stores of brands like Samsung and Apple. They will be available both at Mi.com and Mi Home Stores starting November 23.

The facility at Noida, Uttar Pradesh will specifically deal in the production and assembling of power banks. Between the two, the 10000mAh Mi Power Bank 2i sports a double anodised aluminium design with 14.2mm thickness. Contrarily, the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank 2i comes in a polycarbonate case and includes Quick Charge 3.0 technology for a faster charging experience.

The hologram sticker has a scratch card that reveals a set of numbers that can be checked online to know if the product is genuine.

"Our power banks have smart features that make them compelling among the competition", Jain told Gadgets 360. The additional 'i' in the name of these power bricks stands for India.

The company already has two smartphone manufacturing plants in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh where more than 95 per cent of its smartphones (sold in India) are assembled locally.

"What you need to do is simply bring your old smartphone to a nearest Mi Home".
